Python-EFL 0.3.0 released

Python-EFL packages were uploaded to PyPI, making it possible to install with setuptool’s easy_install.

This release is actually what is in CVS SVN for some time now and is up to date with current EFL code base.

It would be amazing if we could find official Ubuntu packagers for EFL and Python-EFL (see launchpad #259098), we already have one guy working with Fedora, it’s already provided as an overlay for Gentoo, OpenEmbedded has it too, Debian has it in experimental (bit old, but it’s there) and we have some out-of-tree packages for this great distro. Of course Maemo packages are there thanks to Etrunko. If you are willing to package, please contact the developers, we can provide useful hints on which packages are higher priority so you don’t package marginal stuff.

I’ve also updated the Python-EFL API documentation (automatically generated with epydoc).

I took some time yesterday and talked to the guy who maintain the unofficial packages for Ubuntu (http://e17.dunnewind.net/). He also started the Elbuntu distro, based on the official Ubuntu but using Enlightenment as the window manager.

Looking at the debian packages, they’re from the latest stable tarballs released. Ubuntu may include the debian packages in its next cycle.

IMHO, one thing that E needs is a clearer roadmap and more often releases of its libraries. If you maintain a distro you won’t really want to rely on SVN.

I’m talking to the debian and ubuntu guys on IRC and by mail to see how I can help them. Let’s rock! :D

    Etrunko,

Yes, your 200% correct with regard to roadmap and releases, I’m trying to get the guys to follow Mark’s advice on time-based releases, but these old timers are hard to get moving ;-)

Let’s hope we can have e17 out and then force them to have these releases… I’m already happy they moved to SVN! :-P

    Hey,

I would definitely love to have official packages for Ubuntu. I’m still trying to figure out how to use those packages compiled from svn with python :/
