Gustavo Sverzut Barbieri is a Brazilian free/open source hacker that loves extreme sports, coding, heavy metal, coding and have I said… coding? He’s now the owner of ProFUSION, a company that groups everything he enjoys
On the sports front, used to play roller hockey, aggressive roller skating, but these days just play regular football (or soccer for you Americans!) and a bit of gymnastics trying to stay at a healthy weight
Heavy Metal lover, likes most genres except religious, with favorite bands being Iron Maiden, Metallica, Sepultura, Slayer, Dream Theater and Blind Guardian… eclectic!
A passionate computer hacker that started doing DBase programming at age of 9, quickly going to Clipper-CA which he worked until age of 14, when he met the internet and new whole world of information (living in a small city in Brazil country side is like being in an island in the middle of the ocean). Then he learned ASM x86 reading the generated sources from a virus generator, then a bit of Basic and C. Around his 15 he was nuking every IRC user with stupid script kid tools, but could not nuke Linux users, then he decide to try out this “hacker’s operating system” and it was love at first sight, quickly learning Perl, TCL, Bash, LaTeX, HTML, CGI and lots of other things. At the age of 18 he joined State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), where met lots of great hackers and professors, doing lots of small projects, using free time to improve skills, later joining IBM’s Linux Technology Center (LTC) as part time intern for 2 years, when he graduated and went to Recife to work at INdT (Nokia Research Institute).
In 2008 he and his friend Ulisses founded a company called ProFUSION to work with the technologies they invested so much time learning and improving.
